Sophos UTM: Install HW appliances from USB stick

When you install hardware appliances with the newest firmware ISO (As you do with every new customer installation ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), downloaded from here: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/utm-downloads.aspx You have to burn it to a CD-ROM and a attached a USB CDROM device to your UTM. vSphere 6.0 update 1 – Critical CBT issue!

UPDATE 25/11-2015 : VMWARE fixed this with this patch: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2137545 —————————————————————————————— Again??! – really?! Unfortunately yes! ๐Ÿ™ This time, when running vSphere 6 update 1 and hardware version 11, you cannot be sure that you can restore your incremental jobs. Windows 10 – The Handle is invalid

Suddenly today one of my computers wrote, at the login screen: “The handle is invalid” It was not possbile to do anything, other than restarting the computer, but that did not help either. The fix: I started the computer again, and waited for the “handle is invalid” message, hold down the shift key and pressed restart. Windows wrote “Please wait…” and suddenly it prepared updates, after that, it restarted, and then all worked again. Guess… Windows 10 – The Handle is invalid

Windows update stuck at getting updates…

Sometimes Windows Update just get’s stuck, without any particular reason. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 – stuck forever with “Searching for updates”

On a completely newly installed Windows 7 VM (Also Windows Server 2008 R2), Windows Updateย says “Searching for updates” forever, and SVCHOST is using from 50%-100% CPU, this is fixed in an update, but the machine cannot fetch it, because Windows Update is broken out of the box ๐Ÿ™ Luckily Microsoft has made and KB article for this (KB3102810), where you can install it manually, and get things updated automatically again ๐Ÿ˜‰ Installing and searching for… Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 – stuck forever with “Searching for updates”

IBM Storwize V3700: Noisy Powersupply

UPDATE 9/3-2016: IBM has a KB for this (This is from IBM support) – remember use this at own risk :): The command to reset canisters (which usually helps) is: svctask chenclosurecanister -reset -canister 1 EnclosureID svctask chenclosurecanister -reset -canister 2 EnclosureID in this case, the only enclosure in system is “1” so: svctask chenclosurecanister -reset -canister 1 1 svctask chenclosurecanister -reset -canister 2 1 Note that you should wait 30 minutes between canister 1… IBM Storwize V3700: Noisy Powersupply

Sophos XG Firewall free for HOME users ;-)

Sophos made their new XG firewall available for HOME users, like the UTM was, but this time there is no restictions on IP’s! : The home use version no longer has any IP limits, but is limited to 4 CPU cores, and 6GB RAM.
